The number of young people aged 10 to 13 years found guilty of a criminal offence in NSW fell markedly, following the 2016 High Court of Australia decision RP v R. This paper examines if this decline can be explained by the RP v R decision which clarified the application of doli incapax.

This literature review outlines current evidence-based research on the needs and experiences of women and girls involved with courts and applies gender and cultural lenses to examine the efficacy of court-based interventions. Issues covered include specialist supports and court programs that can assist women and girls.

A submission to the Making Queensland Safer (Adult Crime, Adult Time) Amendment Bill 2025 proposes that changes in the Amendment Bill will not work and still remain incompatible with the human rights of children. Deep concerns are held about the original Bill and the Amendment Bill. The submission does not support the proposed legislation.

This interim report summarises evidence and identifies key issues from an inquiry into Australia’s youth justice and incarceration system. Evidence highlighted that Australia’s youth justice system is in crisis and vulnerable children and young people are being held in detention without adequate and appropriate supports. The report makes two recommendations.
