Tasmania’s coastal waters have high biodiversity and endemism, but are in a state of decline and increasing pressure from climate change, fishing and aquaculture operations, agricultural run-off, urban development and population growth. This paper argues that an integrated approach to managing Tasmania’s coastal waters is needed across sectors.

This project brought together a wide range of stakeholders from across the Colac Otway and Corangamite Shires to develop a map based bio-links strategy which is recognised as a key biodiversity planning tool.

This report highlights the decline of species and the overall ecosystem health of the plant. Findings show an average 68% fall in monitored populations of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish between 1970 and 2016.

The Ministry for the Environment and the Department of Conservation have published key themes from submissions made during the consultation on the proposed National Policy Statement for Indigenous Biodiversity. Over 7,000 submissions were made on the proposed NPS including valuable suggestions for improvements.
