The primary aim of this study was to pilot the use of coded ambulance clinical records for violence surveillance at the population level, similarly to work done in an established surveillance system of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) and mental health-related harms.

Shooting deaths in police custody (including police and self-inflicted shootings) account for 30 percent of all deaths in police custody. This paper uses National Deaths in Custody Program data and coronial records to examine the circumstances of these deaths between 2006–07 and 2016–17.

Gun violence in the USA is a human rights crisis. Over half a million people died of gunshot injuries between 2001 and 2017 and a further 1.3 million people sustained firearm-related injuries.
