This bulletin presents previously unpublished national trends in the number and rate of children admitted to out-of-home care (OOHC) by age and Indigenous status, from 2011–12 to 2015–16.

This report is based on data drawn from the Wave 1 cohort. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the differences between relative/kinship care and foster care.

The aim of this report is to examine children’s relationships with the people they are living with and with the members of their birth family, from the perspective of the children themselves and their carers in the first wave of data collection in the Pathways of Care Longitudinal Study (POCLS).
