This background paper examines access and planning processes in the NDIS for people living with intellectual disability.

People with disability are still at significant disadvantage in choosing where they live, who they live with and who provides their supports. This paper argues that there are clear steps that can be taken to reverse this situation and deliver on the promise of a better life under the NDIS.

This study describes components of training provided to people with intellectual disability undergoing traineeships for 12 months in four aged care services. It finds that successful traineeships for people with intellectual disability require support from both the trainee and mentors.
