This draft strategy has been released for public consultation. This strategy recognises that New Zealand needs to take a fresh look at what can be done to make sure the country has the right policies in place for their ageing population.

This report has been prepared to tell the story of the diverse lives and experience of forty-nine New Zealanders living with dementia. Issues addressed include diagnosis, valuing independence, the availability or otherwise of assistance, and the role of care partners.

Among the many other recommendations, this report calls for the Australian government to implement a clearly articulated principle that the duty of care for the regulation of all care within the aged care residential setting ultimately rests with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.

This report builds on the 2015 Intergenerational Report by providing a detailed analysis of the impacts of an ageing population on revenue and spending over the next decade.
