Our physical public areas – town squares, pedestrian zones, shopping centres and bus stops – are increasingly subject to unfettered digitalisation. This report sets out a number of concrete actions cities can take to increase their influence and effectiveness in protecting the data of their residents and visitors.

At present, the digitalisation level of small and medium-sized cities (SMCs) varies greatly in different regions of the world and at different economic levels. This report examines the challenges of digital transformation in SMCs from four viewpoints - society, economy, governance and environment.
