Synthetic media technologies have huge potential benefits, but they also have risks. Public awareness of this risk of deception has grown through discussion of one kind of emerging audiovisual technology known as “deepfakes”. This research report considers the wide-ranging social, legal and policy issues arising.

This month's Digital Inclusion snapshot examines three recent reports. Two of these survey digital transformation strategies and initiatives of Australia’s federal, state and territory governments, and the third is a recent New Zealand Government blueprint making a more explicit connection between digital transformation and digital inclusion.

This paper uses survey data from 167 New Zealand sheep/beef and dairy farmers to explore the non-financial barriers that affect their decision-making when deciding whether or not to adopt or expand particular on-farm greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions mitigation practices.

This research highlights different non-financial barriers that directly affect the adoption of mitigation practices. Identifying these barriers is key for future policy planning and GHG mitigation research, as, with clearer signals and incentive mechanisms, policy can better inform the decision-making of farmers, therefore reducing on-farm GHG emissions throughout New Zealand.
