The Kiribati Marine Training Centre (MTC) is a locally-based organisation that contributes to economic and social-well being in Kiribati through provision of training for occupations seeking work in the local marine sector.

The Government of Kiribati has been considering improvements to its planning, policy, coordination, implementation and financial management processes for some time, and this report does not set out to cover the whole range of proposals for change.

Over 2003-2009, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) committed nearly $NZ 2.5 million to fund two projects aimed at improving the mental health status of young people.

By way of background, the objectives of NZAID’s Kiribati Country Strategy for 2002-2007 and 2006-2009 were to improve educational outcomes, improve public sector performance and to apply the cross-cutting themes of gender equity, environmental improvement and human rights. The second strategy also had human resource development and urban renewal as objectives.

The WHO Pacific Islands Mental Health Network (PIMHnet) was officially launched at the Meeting of Ministers of Health for the Pacific Island Countries in Port Vila, Vanuatu on 14 March 2007.
