This paper attempts to explore why there has been a continual rise in Indigenous female incarceration rates in the Northern Territory since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody (RCIADIC) in 1991.

This report provides a synthesis of the discussion held with community members and service providers in the course of twelve workshops facilitated by Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT) regarding the Royal Commission into the Detention and Protection of Children in the NT.

The overall aim of this work was to inform parliaments, and in particular parliamentary committees, of the strategies that could be developed to better engage CALD communities in the work of future parliamentary inquiries.

The Northern Territory government is delivering broad alcohol reforms that aim to reduce the demand, supply and harm caused by alcohol across the Territory. It is anticipated that the initiatives targeting alcohol misuse will reduce population levels of consumption, and will contribute to reducing the incidence of FASD in the community.
