This report outlines the Australian government’s broad policy directions for the agriculture, fisheries, forestry and food industries. It identifies the government’s goals, operating in partnership with industry, of creating an environment of opportunity and helping equip individual producers and their industries with the capacity to succeed.

The report sets out a framework for achieving long-term profitability for the rural and food industries, being competitive and adaptable, and having access to international markets and a well managed natural resource base.

In this context the statement outlines the role of the Australian government, and includes the 2007–08 Budget measures for agriculture, fisheries, forestry and food.
