The survey examined the steps households had taken in preparing for emergencies. This publication presents results from the Household Preparedness for Emergencies survey which was conducted in New South Wales (NSW), Victoria (Vic.), Queensland (Qld), and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) during October 2007. The survey examined the steps households had taken in preparing for emergencies. These steps included safety precautions such as installing smoke alarms, ensuring emergency phone numbers were accessible and having an emergency plan. Where households had experienced a recent emergency (in the last 2 years), the survey investigated how they responded during the emergency and whether any changes were made to ensure better preparedness in the future.
