Gambling is a popular activity in Australia, but can result in problems for a significant minority. In response, the Australian Government has commissioned the Australian Institute of Family Studies to investigate 'pre-commitment' options for electronic gaming machines. This report is one of a set of three, and focuses on the option of providing transaction history statements. Such statements provide accurate and objective information to gamblers on their spending and help inform their decisions about loss limits. The report reviews transaction history statement systems in use in Australia and overseas, their objectives and rationale, statement design effectiveness, privacy and integrity, and avenues for further research. The study draws on a rapid evidence assessment and consultations with key stakeholders in selected government, industry and research sectors in Australia and overseas.
