This report has been commissioned to look at the freight sector elements of the national infrastructure. The report identifies international 'megatrends' in the sector and assesses their likely impact on the New Zealand freight and ports sector. It also looks at the international trends in port ownership and operating models and makes a comparison between these trends and the current situation in New Zealand. It is intended that this report will be one of many pieces of work that Infracom will undertake over the next few months to help to prepare the 30-year infrastructure strategy.
