Description

This report reviews developments in native title law and policy from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012.

Chapter 1 examines the enjoyment and exercise of human rights by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in light of changes to policy and legislation made during the reporting period.

Chapter 2 examines how Indigenous governance over our lands, territories and resources needs to incorporate the principles that are set out in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Chapter 3 considers Indigenous governance within the Native Title Act, focusing on governance following a native title determination.

The Report also provides five recommendations for consideration.
