Description
This research, commissioned by the Mito Foundation, reveals the true cost of mitochondrial disease (mito) in Australia. The cost to the Australian economy each year is estimated to be over $1 billion. The research broke the costs of mito down into four main areas: quality of life, health care and NDIS, lost productivity, and out-of-pocket costs.
In the companion report, Taking action on the preventable burden of mito, the Mito Foundation summarises the research conducted by the Centre for International Economics. The Foundation has also identified four priority areas for action. These areas are diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and support. The report also outlines the next steps needed to take action on the preventable burden of mito.
