Description

A framework for companies to assess and measure the impact and outcomes of AI use. It is intended to help companies and their leaders demonstrate accountability for the impact of AI, increase transparency and build public trust.

The framework seeks to improve the field of AI governance by providing a shared vocabulary to discuss the real‑world social, environmental and economic impacts of AI systems. It is intended to help organisations shift from internal reporting governance metrics to reporting publicly on the tangible outcomes of AI on communities and the environment. In doing so, it is intended to ensure that Australian companies are known for their responsible and impact-led deployment of AI systems.

The AI Impact Navigator complements the Voluntary AI Safety Standard set out by the Australian Government.

It uses a continuous improvement cycle known as Plan, Act, Adapt to provide a way for company leaders to communicate and discuss what’s working, what they’ve learned, and what their AI impact is.

  1. Plan: create an environment for the Navigator to guide AI adoption in your company.
  2. Act: engage stakeholders and develop an implementation plan with clear goals and measures.
  3. Adapt: bring together your data and evidence of impact, and share what has been learnt with customers, stakeholders, and the broader community to create a better AI environment for everyone.

The framework understands and reports on AI impact across four key dimensions:

  1. social licence and corporate transparency,
  2. workforce and productivity,
  3. effective AI and community impact, and
  4. customer experience and consumer rights.
