Description

This report showcases how biotechnologies are increasingly being applied across food supply chains, provide value-added opportunities in traditional agriculture and develop new food production systems. The report positions emerging biotechnologies and biomanufacturing as Australia’s best and under-appreciated opportunity to strengthen Australia’s food security and national resilience, while also opening up substantial economic opportunities both nationally and in Australia’s regions.

The report cautions that while Australia has the potential to be a regional or global hub for food biotechnology and biomanufacturing, there are significant barriers impeding scale-up and commercialisation efforts in this nascent industry. The report sets out 25 recommendations for the Australian Government and industry across four urgent priorities: policy settings, research and innovation, regulation, and infrastructure.
