Anglicare Southern Queensland has been participating in the Rental affordability snapshot for more than a decade. This snapshot highlights the lived experience of those on low incomes (both income support and minimum wage) in southern Queensland, Australia, trying to find a home that is both affordable and appropriate. It draws on a survey of 8163 rental properties across southern Queensland. The findings continue to expose an alarming trend in the private rental market.
Key findings
- 26 unique properties were affordable and appropriate for households on income support.
- 444 unique properties were affordable and appropriate for those on minimum wage.
- Single parents were among the worst-off with almost 0% of affordable and appropriate properties available for any single parent household type.
- There were no affordable and appropriate rental properties for households on income support with children.
- Coastal areas continue to be the least affordable across southern Queensland.
