Description
The Group of Eight Expert Advisory Committee on Combatting Antisemitism (EACCA) was tasked with identifying practical, proportionate and implementable actions to strengthen how Australia's research-intensive universities prevent, respond to and manage antisemitism within contemporary university settings.
The EACCA was established on 17 December, following the Bondi terrorist attack, to provide independent expert advice to strengthen how Go8 universities prevent, respond to and manage antisemitism on campus.
The Committee reached three overarching conclusions:
- Go8 universities have already taken action to address antisemitism
- improved preparedness, clarity and consistency would materially strengthen institutional responses
- piecemeal or symbolic measures are insufficient.
The report sets out a practical framework for continuous improvement across key areas including:
- adoption of a definition of antisemitism
- complaints and reporting mechanisms
- education and training for executives, teaching staff and students
- regulatory and operational principles
- social media protocols.
