In the latest issues paper from AIATSIS Research Publications, David Ritter explores the contemporary intersection of Indigenous and environmental interests, both internationally and in the Australian context. As CEO of Greenpeace Australia Pacific, Ritter is uniquely placed to examine Greenpeace’s successful alliances with indigenous peoples in the Americas and the sub-Arctic as well as the underlying dynamics in Australia — for example, the limitations of future act negotiations and the powerful influence of the resources sector — that can contribute to disputes between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups and environmentalists.
