Environment Aotearoa 2015 provides an overall picture of New Zealand's environment across the air, atmosphere and climate, fresh water, land, and marine domains and shows interactions between each domain. It presents the human and natural pressures that cause changes to the state of these domains and the impacts these changes have on our environment, economy and way of life.

This report provides accurate and reliable information to encourage discussion and inform decision-making on issues that affect the environment.

It is intended to form the basis of a national conversation about how to address the issues raised in the report. While much of the information is technical, every effort has been made to make this report accessible to a wide audience, from school students to policymakers and scientists.
