I have worked for almost 25 years in the field of copyright and I have seen many changes in the area over the years. But the widespread use of the Internet for the exchange of creative content online is proving one of the greatest challenges, and opportunities, for the existing copyright legal framework. Piracy, peer-to-peer networking and illegal downloads are creating a revolution, transferring control from copyright owners to consumers worldwide. The World Wide Web also presents us with new cross-border jurisdictional challenges as copyright owners struggle to manage illegal content consumption online on a global scale.
