Description
In a major new study submitted to the Senate Inquiry into Poverty and Financial Hardship in Australia, the Australian Council of Social Service has called on the Government to halve child poverty and reduce the overall level of poverty in Australia by a quarter over a 10 year period. The study shows there are over 2 million Australians at risk of poverty today, including 740,000 children. The Blair Government in the UK has set national targets to eliminate child poverty, improve educational attainment, reduce crime and improve housing. ACOSS calls on our Government to adopt similar visionary targets for Australia.
