This review is being conducted to determine whether the policy objectives of the 2019 Ageing and Disability Commissioner Act, created to help protect vulnerable adults with disability and older people, remain valid and the terms of the Act are still appropriate to help meet those objectives.

This submission is focused on two main areas: the experience of adults with disability and older people who are subject to coercive and controlling behaviours; and coercive control in family and ‘carer’ relationships.

This review into disability advocacy funding arrangements in NSW explores the purpose, functions and funding arrangements for independent specialist advocacy, including information and representative organisations for people with disability across NSW.

This e-brief begins by looking at the prevalence of abuse of older people and adults with disability. It then outlines existing NSW agencies that play a role in protecting these groups from abuse and also considers NSW and national review recommendations to establish agencies to protect “vulnerable” or “at-risk” adults from abuse and neglect.
