This toolkit summarises the five main challenges encountered in meaningful political participation and media literacy by Chinese and South Asian origin research participants resident in Australia for at least 2 years. It also presents evidence-based recommendations to address these challenges for a range of stakeholders.

This submission provides results from an in-depth study on political participation, literacy, and media engagement among Chinese and South Asian communities in Australia. The research suggests several recommendations to improve civics education and political participation among culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

This research provides further evidence of the interdependencies between various social and civic participation measures and refugees’ overall experience of settlement and their sense of welcome and belonging.
