This research provides further evidence of the interdependencies between various social and civic participation measures and refugees’ overall experience of settlement and their sense of welcome and belonging.

This publication reports on a second wave of research carried out with newly arrived refugees in Australia. This research points to a series of actions that governments, policy-makers, service providers and civil society can pursue to strengthen their contributions to refugee settlement and integration.

Successful settlement and integration is a goal shared by refugees, the communities where refugees settle and government at all levels. This research shines a light on aspects of integration that are often overlooked - refugees’ social connections and their access to rights and fulfilment of responsibilities.
