Family, domestic and sexual violence is a major health and welfare issue. It affects people of all ages and from all backgrounds, but mainly women and children. This report explores the impact of family, domestic and sexual violence among vulnerable groups.

Among the many other recommendations, this report calls for the Australian government to implement a clearly articulated principle that the duty of care for the regulation of all care within the aged care residential setting ultimately rests with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.

Developed in collaboration with state and territory governments, the National Plan establishes a framework under which governments will prioritise and report on activity to reduce the prevalence and impact of elder abuse by working together on priority areas that would benefit from national collaboration.

This report shows that many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 and over have complex and varied needs. It brings together data from more than twenty sources to identify potential measures or factors which may be associated with vulnerability to abuse.

This e-brief begins by looking at the prevalence of abuse of older people and adults with disability. It then outlines existing NSW agencies that play a role in protecting these groups from abuse and also considers NSW and national review recommendations to establish agencies to protect “vulnerable” or “at-risk” adults from abuse and neglect.
