This report presents an assessment of the rooftop solar potential across Australia's housing stock. It has a particular focus on social housing, apartments and private rental housing - three sectors that are significantly under-represented in Australia's world-leading uptake of residential solar.

This working paper tracks the development of high-density housing – namely apartments – against public transport service provision on an annual basis over a 19-year period (2003-04 to 2021-22) in Melbourne, Australia. A ‘needs-gap’ analysis is also undertaken to measure equity in public transport service provision in areas of apartment housing.

This report is a case study providing insights into the lived experience that many apartment owners suffer in buildings with defects. It comes three years into the building reforms being implemented in New South Wales to lift the compliance of and public confidence in residential apartment buildings.

This research investigates how Australia can supply new and retrofit older apartments so that they are sustainable - that is, they are comfortable; deliver cost reductions for householders, while minimising consumption and waste; and maximise energy efficiencies and energy management, both in their construction and throughout their lifecycle.

This paper looks at the building industry regulatory framework and initiatives of the NSW Government and explores the progress of recommendations arising from two recent parliamentary inquiries.
