Young carers: impacts of caring on children’s learning and wellbeing
This report examines the early home environment of Australian children who became young carers, to what extent caring activities limit young people’s cognitive and psycho-social outcomes, and what explains the gaps between the developmental outcomes of young carers compared to their peers. It finds that caring does impair academic achievement of these young people.

The Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) is a national measure of children’s development as they enter their first year of full-time school. The AEDC reveals trends in early childhood development. It can indicate what is working well to support children, and where opportunities exist to take further action.

This report summarises a project identifying the factors which predict different types of transition to school. It finds that the case for early investment in children and families is clear. Evidence from the report includes estimates of the prevention potential if targeted effective supports were offered to specific priority populations early in life.

Understanding preschool delivery
This rapid evidence review examines the impact of preschool delivery practices on child outcomes. It found mixed evidence regarding the impact of teacher qualifications but largely positive effects of preschool attendance, duration and quality. The review indicates a need for further research and more up-to-date data to inform current policy settings.
