The objective of this report is to clearly articulate Australian investors’ expectations by detailing the experience, action and responsibilities required to constitute a climate competent board.

Throughout this report, the authors provide examples of how Australian businesses have developed a business case for adopting and implementing the science-based targets for net zero emissions.

Net zero commitments from companies demonstrate that climate action is on their agenda and that action is underway at that organisation. But, perhaps more importantly, they also normalise the corporate sector contributing to Australia reaching net zero emissions. This report was informed by an updated analysis of 30 of the 158 companies previously assessed.

This report will be of interest to investors, regulators, and other stakeholders to better understand how top public-listed Australian companies are relating to and managing the different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The report provides an analysis of the SDG disclosure practices in 2020 by the top 150 Australian public-listed companies (ASX150).

This report argues that Australia’s energy sector must accelerate its pace of decarbonisation if Australia is to reach net-zero emissions, in line with the global climate goals.
