The objective of this audit was to assess whether the selected entities’ administration of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) requests is effective in giving the community access to Australian Government information. Six recommendations were made to the audited entities to improve their administration of FOI Act requests.

In 2023 the Australian Government reformed the Paid Parental Leave (PPL) scheme to make it more flexible and gender neutral. A key objective of the reforms was to encourage both parents to share caring arrangements. This project explored how forms and websites support parents’ intentions to share their parental leave entitlements.

Climate misinformation and disinformation in Australia often originates from the very institutions charged with protecting the public interest. This report finds that the Australian Government is a source of climate misinformation and disinformation. While the report focuses on climate, the reforms outlined address the same root causes that enable misinformation across Australian public life.

Services Australia collects, stores and uses the personal information of more than 27 million people to deliver services and payments. This audit provides assurance about whether Services Australia is effectively managing the privacy of client information. Deficiencies were found with risk management, data matching, record-keeping, impact assessments, transparency and reporting. The report provides eight recommendations.

The final report from the inquiry into the Freedom of Information Amendment Bill 2025. It outlines the purpose and contextual information, as well as identifying some of its key provisions. It examines key issues raised and sets out the committee’s findings and recommendations. The committee recommends that the Bill be passed.
