The strategy sets out a vision for a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people enjoy high levels of social and emotional well-being and have access to culturally safe and responsive mental health services. The strategy identifies six priorities to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and support their leadership in suicide prevention.

This policy brief outlines the importance of cultural safety in addressing racism, the need for clarity and understanding about cultural safety and creating pathways for embedding cultural safety in health and human services through establishing national training standards and a linked accreditation process, combined with dedicated organisational action.

A central reference point for a whole-of-society approach to eliminating racism in Australia, this framework will influence all levels of government and community partnerships for the next ten years. Its 63 recommendations outline legislative reform, funding, and the development of national standards and guidelines to actively address the root causes of systemic and structural racism.

This framework is intended to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander values, ways of thinking and approaches to learning into Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) education and training. The Framework is principles-based and provides a nationally consistent approach to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural and Health Training programs.
