The strategy sets out a vision for a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people enjoy high levels of social and emotional well-being and have access to culturally safe and responsive mental health and suicide prevention services. To achieve this, the strategy identifies six key priorities and a series of initiatives designed to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and support their leadership in suicide prevention efforts.
The strategy seeks provide a clear pathway for all levels of government to work in genuine partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to reduce suicide and self-harm rates.
It outlines six key priorities, each with a set of associated initiatives:
- leadership and self-determination
- thriving communities
- informed and supportive communities
- culturally safe, accessible, targeted, and coordinated care
- responsive workforce, and
- evidence and data.
