This plan is the foundation for New South Wales’ action on climate change and goal to reach net zero emissions by 2050. The plan aims to enhance the prosperity and quality of life of the people of NSW, while helping the state to deliver a 35% cut in emissions by 2030 compared to 2005 levels.

Getting to net-zero emissions by 2050 requires a combination of technology and policy, and the pathway can take many forms. This brief provides several building blocks that governments are using, or are considering, to construct these pathways, but the scale of current policies is insufficient to drive decarbonization.

This issues paper illustrates the influence infrastructure assets have on Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions and sets out opportunities to prioritise emissions reductions towards achieving net zero emissions in the planning, designing, building and operation of infrastructure.

This analysis shows Northen Territory (NT) fracking emissions under the NT Government’s own fracking inquiry’s high production scenario would be worse than the emissions of Australia’s coal fleet across the National Energy Market (NEM) in 2030, and require more offsets each year than have ever been issued in Australia to date.

The objective of this project is to develop an updated, comprehensive energy and climate change policy package that is driven by science, technology and innovation to put Australia on a path to net-zero emissions by 2050.
