This is the final report from the Northern Territory Government on the investigations into the findings of a retrospective cohort study on long-term Aboriginal residents living in the Gunbalanya-Kakadu area.

For this report, the authors examined the experiences and outcomes of pēpi (young children) in the statutory care and protection system; and conducted an environmental scan of relevant rangahau and mātauranga Māori to provide a te ao Māori perspective on this issue.

This year’s Family Matters report is the first to be published following the new National Agreement on Closing the Gap, which was entered into in July 2020. This report focuses on what actions need to be taken to address the over-representation and the outcomes of First Nations children in out-of-home care.

This paper identifies a number of challenges and recommendations to the establishment of a National Commissioner for First Nations children and young people.

Flinders University researchers led a collaborative initiative between health and education staff that provided two four-week blocks of intense physiotherapy services at an additional needs school in Alice Springs. This report has been released to inform future service-learning placements in the same and comparable contexts.
