University students should feel free to ask questions and challenge existing viewpoints. This report on data from Australian student experience surveys finds at least 1 in 5 domestic undergraduates and 1 in 4 domestic postgraduates do not feel free to express their views. The report recommends universities be held more accountable for freedom of expression.

Drawing on recently released data, this report focuses on changes in enabling program participation rates across Australia from 2014 to 2023.

Towards a financially inclusive higher education system
This report examined the prevalence and impact of financial hardship on Australian university students. It evaluated the effectiveness of existing financial support services and identified barriers that prevent students from accessing essential assistance. It recommends that government funded payment schemes be enhanced, and that universities should expand and enhance their emergency and non-monetary support services.
