This is the second of two reports in eSafety’s 'Young People and Pornography' research series. This report contributes to the evidence base on young people’s attitudes towards the age-based restriction of access to online pornography and age assurance, including but not limited to age assurance tools.

In September 2022, eSafety carried out mixed methods research into young people’s attitudes towards online pornography and age assurance. This report starts by examining young people’s encounters with online pornography. It then explores young people’s perspectives on and attitudes towards online pornography, including what they consider helpful for reducing its negative impacts.

This report outlines the methodology used for eSafety’s 'Young People and Pornography' research series. The research is based on survey and focus group research conducted in September 2022.

While digital security ultimately depends on the decisions made by private actors (e.g. network operators and their suppliers), this report underlines the role governments can play to enhance the digital security of communication networks.
