Description

This report presents data on crime reported to, or detected by, the NSW Police Force from January 1995 to December 2017 , with a focus on the statistical trends for the 24 months ending December 2017. The data were extracted from the Computerised Operational Policing System (COPS) of the NSW Police Force in February 2018.

The report includes an overview of trends in the most recent two-year period for major offence categories, firstly for NSW and then across NSW regions broken down to the Local Government Area (LGA) level. At the State level, for the 24-month period to the end of December 2017 one major offence category has been trending upwards: steal from retail store (up 3.9%). Four of the 17 major offence categories were trending downwards: break and enter dwelling (down 6.5%), break and enter non-dwelling (down9.8%), steal from person (down 8.3%) and fraud (down 4.8%).
