Urban social housing for Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders: respecting culture and adapting services
This study sought to understand appropriate models of service provision in social housing for Indigenous Australians.
It found that social housing for Indigenous households will work best if policy and service delivery settings promote intercultural practices through which service providers, workers, tenants and the wider Indigenous community live and work. These practices include showing respect and sharing knowledge, and being willing and able to work collaboratively, collectively and flexibly to grapple with the wicked problems associated with providing housing to one of the most disadvantaged groups in our cities and towns.
This project builds on a previous AHURI study Social housing diversity and integration.
