The South Australian Government has released its full response to the Murray-Darling Basin Royal Commission and the Productivity Commission’s five-year assessment – with a continued focus on implementation of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, in full and on time, by 2024.

The response represents a considered assessment of the Royal Commission’s recommendations, alongside the recommendations of the Productivity Commission’s Murray-Darling Basin Plan: Five-year assessment.

Of the 82 recommendations made in the Murray-Darling Basin Royal Commission and Productivity Commission reports the State Government either supports in full or partially 66 recommendations, doesn’t support 10, with six either not applicable to South Australia, or requiring further consideration.

Recommendations that could either see the plan delayed or focused on additional water recovered through immediate buybacks, were not agreed to.

The full response to both the Royal Commission and Productivity Commission reports outlines actions that will be taken by South Australia and reflects a range of agreements reached by Basin Governments since the release of the reports.
