The Prisoner Mental Health Care Taskforce (the Taskforce) was established on 18 September 2018 to progress this work. The Taskforce's terms of reference are outlined in Appendix 1.

The report's release was delayed until the relevant Coronial inquiry had concluded.

This report represents the culmination of six months’ work by the Taskforce. It outlines the Taskforce’s observations and findings on the delivery of mental health care to prisoners and detainees. It also makes a number of recommendations about the resources, information management mechanisms, processes and documentation required to improve the delivery of mental health services to prisoners and detainees and suggests reporting mechanisms to ensure ongoing momentum towards change.
