The state of NSW faces a serious and complex problem due to the significant health and social harms caused by the illicit drug crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘ice’, and other amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS).
The inquiry’s terms of reference required the Special Commission to report on the nature, prevalence and impact of crystal methamphetamine and other illicit ATS, the adequacy of existing measures to target these substances in NSW, and options to strengthen the response to crystal methamphetamine and illicit ATS, including law enforcement, education, treatment and rehabilitation responses. This report is the result of a robust and meticulous evidence-gathering process carried out over a period of fourteen months.
