Description

This strategy sets the direction and long-term priorities for the new health system to move towards achieving equity in disabled people’s health and wellbeing outcomes over the next 10 years.

This provisional strategy provides a framework to guide health entities to improve health outcomes for disabled people and their whānau. Disabled people experience poorer health than non-disabled people and acutely feel these inequities.

Disabled people make up a significant and diverse part of Aotearoa New Zealand, with 1.1 million people (24% of the population) identified as disabled.

Our vision is to achieve pae ora | healthy futures for disabled people and their whānau in Aotearoa New Zealand. This is a future in which all disabled people and their whānau live long, fulfilling and more independent lives in good health.
