Strategy
Description

This plan was developed in response to the outcomes of the Defence Strategic Review, which highlighted shortcomings in Australia’s existing defence policies and workforce planning.

The plan highlights the need to transition to an integrated, focused force to address a challenging strategic environment. It  identifies a need to grow both the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the Australian Public Service workforces to meet the capability requirements outlined in the National Defence Strategy. The plan proposes a series of strategic tasks to accomplish this.

The plan requires substantial investment in recruitment and retention initiatives, and highlights the need for ongoing collaboration with defence industry and other government agencies.

Defence will implement the following eight strategic tasks to meet the current and future needs of its workforce.

  1. Optimised design of the integrated workforce
  2. Enhanced ADF inflow
  3. Partnership with defence industry
  4. Enhanced ADF health services and readiness
  5. Development and transformation of the defence workforce
  6. Management of the integrated workforce
  7. Improved culture, mental health and wellbeing
  8. Support to defence personnel, ADF families and transitioning members
