Description
This report provides the second update on the implementation of the National Strategy. It updates key achievements and progress for all 62 activities outlined in the Strategy’s action plan. The report notes significant progress, with seven National Strategy activities now completed.
The report details case studies that demonstrate the work being undertaken. It also acknowledges the progress made in implementing recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, with the majority of recommendations directed at the Australian Government having been implemented.
The report will also contribute to the National Strategy’s Second Action Plan, which will steer reforms over subsequent years.
Key achievements
- The Department of Health and Aged Care and the National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse launched a new set of resources to strengthen the capability of the primary health care workforce.
- The Australian Federal Police (AFP) hosted the inaugural 5‑day Victim Identification Foundation training course.
- The National Office led the development of a trauma‑informed, victim and survivor‑centred multidisciplinary workplan.
- The AFP established a Victim Identification Taskforce in May 2024.
- The Crimes Amendment (Strengthening the Criminal Justice Response to Sexual Violence) Bill 2024 passed both houses of Parliament.
