Description
The Pathways of Care Longitudinal Study (POCLS) is the first large-scale prospective longitudinal study of children and young people in out-of-home care (OOHC) in Australia.
This is the second statistical report that focuses on a cohort of young people in out-of-home care (OOHC) who were aged 15-17 years at the time of their POCLS interview. This cohort is referred to as the leaving care cohort.
This report describes the experiences of young people who entered OOHC when they were 4-14 years old and focuses on the following questions:
- What are the demographic characteristics of the children and young people in the residential care cohort?
- How is the residential care cohort faring in terms of socio-emotional wellbeing, social competence, verbal ability, and non-verbal reasoning?
- What are the perspectives of the residential care cohort and their caregivers on aspects of residential care?
