Description

Eliminating weight stigma in maternity care may improve women's pregnancy outcomes and long term maternal and child health. This policy brief outlines evidence-based recommendations for addressing weight stigma in maternity care. It is targeted at policymakers, midwives, obstetricians, GPs and administrative staff.

Recommendations cover improvements to maternity care settings and healthcare professional attitudes and behaviours. Policymakers should develop and implement non-weight-centric maternity care policies that are non-stigmatising, support setting and practice change, and provide women and pregnant people autonomy in relation to their care.
