Description
The budget outlines the Victorian Government's fiscal policy, infrastructure investment and economic outlook. Measures focus on cost-of-living help and more investment in frontline services.
For the first time since before the pandemic, the budget will deliver an operating surplus in the budget year. It will also see net debt on track to fall as a share of the economy. It continues the Government's commitment to driving down spend on inefficient and non‑priority programs.
The budget provides $2.3 billion to deliver new and expanded cost of living help for working people and their families. Measures include:
- making public transport free for under 18-year-olds
- enabling pharmacists to treat more Victorians and more conditions
- a $100 Power Saving Bonus for those who need it most
- more support for food relief organisations
- Free Kinder for every three and four-year-old
- opening and operationalising nine new or expanded hospitals
- investment in public transport and fixing roads.
