Description

This document outlines the evaluation of the Economic Pathways for Refugee Integration (EPRI) program, delivered by Whittlesea Community Connections (WCC) in Victoria, Australia. The evaluation covers the period from February 2023 to June 2026 and focuses on how the program supports refugees and humanitarian entrants to access employment and strengthen economic participation.

The evaluation highlights WCC’s flexible and person-centred approach, which responds to the individual skills, goals and settlement needs of participants. Through tailored support, EPRI helps participants improve English language skills, build confidence and develop job readiness. The program offers a range of opportunities including training, volunteering, paid placements and pathways to employment, supported by strong partnerships with local employers, education providers and settlement services.

Key findings show positive outcomes for participants, with many reporting increased confidence, skills and social connection. A significant number achieved employment, training or volunteering outcomes through the program. The evaluation also identifies common barriers to employment, such as limited English proficiency, lack of local work experience, caring responsibilities, and recognition of overseas skills.

Overall, the evaluation demonstrates the importance of integrated, inclusive and flexible support in helping refugees overcome barriers and build sustainable employment pathways within the local community.
